National Bureau for crimes in the U.S. in the sphere of insurance industry (NICB) has published interesting statistics on automobile thefts. It was found that the hybrid Toyota Prius model of new year modification, which is currently one of the America’s most popular cars, is one of the most rarely stolen car model.

Prius that was first sold in the U.S. market since 2000, and for 12 years has sold more than 1.2 million hybrids, has a statistic of stolen models of the only 2.5 thousand copies. If we consider a hybrid model of the year 2008-2010, the statistics on stealing appear to be only one car out of 606 Toyota Prius models, while the average for cars for the last these years – the one stolen car on 78 model. Moreover, the 96.7% of all stolen Toyota Prius models are then found and returned to the owners.

NICB representatives explained to us the low interest of hijackers to Toyota Prius model. The fact is that the model is quite separated in the fact that its components are not suitable for other cars. Ordinary criminals think that it is easier to steal a Toyota, Nissan or Honda, take it apart and sell for parts. Still in the “top of” auto-theft in the top lines we can see the models of Honda Accord and Honda Civic of the years 90’s of release.
